It is the breath that unites the mind with the body! Imagine the lungs are in the lower back: Breathing into the bottom of the ribs expands the lower ribs which pulls the lungs down for a greater volume of oxygen. More oxygen means more energy and mental clarity needed for the length of the golf game. Deep diaphragmatic breathing also prepares the golfer for the next principle of core control.

The Diaphragmatic Breathing you learn in Pilates
enhances performance
Breathing and focus are directly related. Taping into deep breathing during critical, stressfully times in a game not only enhances productivity, it helps create a state of calm, relaxation and freedom of movement. When you focus on your breathing you are not thinking about the past or the future, you are in the present which is where you need to be! When it is time to address the ball you have more clarity and focus on your center and the task at hand. Diaphragmatic Breathing eliminates anxiety over performance and the outside influences that disrupt your focus. When doing Pilates exercises correctly you will experience what it is like to be "in the zone", focused and in the present. This is where you need to be in order to play your best Golf!
